Not so long ago it was next to impossible to find a sub-notebook of any kind in Finnish stores, now it seems that several shops are offering atleast one of the major models (ASUS Eee PC, MSI Wind, Acer Aspire One). Below are some of the best deals I could find, please let me know if you come across any better ones.

MSI Wind getting Desktop version

MSI Wind

Apparently MSI will follow in Asus’s footsteps and create a desktop version of their sub-notebook.  The desktop Wind will likely have pretty much the same internals as the current notebook editions.  It will be powered by the same 1,6GHz Intel Atom CPU and feature 1GB of DRAM(upgradeable to 2GB), a 3.5-inch HDD with up to 160GB of storage and WLAN 802.11b/g built in.  A DVD drive will also be included.

The price will range from $199 to $299, depending on the feature set.  The InfoWorld article says that the machines will ship with Windows XP, but hopefully a Linux version will also be available…

Smaller, Thinner MSI Wind Aimed At Business

Shrink MSI Wind

Having just pushed the original Wind sub-notebook out the door, MSI is already planning a new version, aimed at business users.  It is set to use the same CPU and chipset as the original but will be thinner.  In essence the business Wind will largely use the same components as the original.

“On Intel’s roadmap, there won’t be any change in Atom until the second half of next year, so the microprocessor and chipset will be the same,” said Tung.

The new Wind will probably be available in the first quarter of 2009, and may be seen at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas in January.

MSI is also said to be working on a device even smaller than the current class of sub-notebooks for people who want to surf the internet while on the move.  Perhaps something in the line of the Nokia Internet Tablet?
